Meet the Big John Trimble's
East Coast Opry Performers
Teenie
Chanault was born in Caroline County, VA. As
a teenager, Teenie played both the guitar and bass and
sang in a bluegrass music group. Teenie and the Rockers
began touring the USA and other countries with the release
of his hit, “It’s a Big Ole Heartache,”
in 1964. The song was on Nashville Records and quickly
became Teenie’s signature song. Teenie’s next
hit, “Kisses and Wine,” was on the Stop Label
out of Nashville. Teenie and his band, the Country
Rockers, toured Vietnam and entertained our troops
there and at other bases during USO shows. In 1965, Teenie
and the band were the headliners in the main ball room
of the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. Teenie and the Country
Rockers toured in excess of 300 days a year, performing
at service bases, fairs and other concerts throughout
the United States and Canada for many years. Teenie and
the band have been regular cast members of the Old Dominion
Barn Dance in Richmond and the WWVA Wheeling Jamboree
in Wheeling, WVA. Teenie and the band accept only select
dates to work here in central Virginia these days because
Teenie and the boys don’t want to be too far away
from their children and grandchildren. We do get Teenie
off the golf course long enough to entertain at the East
Coast Opry shows.
Country Rockers Band:
Ryland Tinnell,
Pedal Steel Guitar
For the past 42 years, Ryland has been a member of the
Country Rockers Band. He joined the band to back up Teenie
Chenault in 1962. Encouraged by his older brother, C.H.
Tinnell, Ryland started out playing the dobro in his country
home before advancing on to the electric pedal steel guitar.
Ryland, who also is a great singer, has performed throughout
the USA and overseas and is one of the most respected
musicians in country music.
Wiley Southworth,
Drums
Wiley has been playing drums since age 14 and joined the
Country Rockers when he was 17 in 1965 and has toured
all across the USA and Canada with the band since then.
Wiley has had a lifelong passion for music and is a walking
encyclopedia on country music. Wiley has also been a disc
jockey on several radio stations over the years and has
maintained a second career as an advertising artist for
many years. He and the rest of the Country Rockers have
worked on shows with some of the best-known recording
artists in country music.
Dave Garrett,
Lead Guitar, Banjo and Tenor Vocals
Dave joined the Country Rockers in 1968. Dave is what
is known in the music business as a triple threat in that
he is a great vocalist, lead guitarist and has been named
Virginia’s state champion banjo player many times.
Dave started his musical career in bluegrass music and
still performs with bluegrass groups. Dave is one the
most demanded sidemen on record sessions and live performances
on the East Coast.
George Cook,
Electric Bass
George became the newest member of the Country Rockers
when he joined the group in April 2003. But he is no stranger
to the electric bass. George has been performing all across
the USA for over 35 years. George was a member of the
Lynn Stewart band on the Wheeling Jamboree for many years
and not only excels in country music but plays blues and
rock ‘n’ roll as well.
